Abstract
New forms of litigation before the ICJ have emerged from requests for provisional measures filed alongside claims for violations of the Genocide Convention. These cases reflect two main trends: (i) jurisdictional strategy and standing in requests made by third party States not injured, based on erga omnes obligations and ius cogens norms, and (ii) the influence of provisional measures requested in armed conflicts. Through an analysis of the Gambia v. Myanmar, Ukraine v. Russia, and South Africa v. Israel cases, this article highlights the differences and impact of strategies for alleging violations of the Convention and examines how various actors, including non-injured States, such as Colombia, participate in the proceedings.
