Abstract
The stigma associated with violations of human rights has been underexplored in International Relations despite its importance and impact. This article approaches the components of the stigma and situates it in the Latin American contexts of the Cold War -when it emerged- and at the onset of the Post-Cold War. Elaborating on theoretical and conceptual approaches on stigma in sociology and International Relations, findings of the author's PhD research, and critical legal studies’ contributions, some of the implications of stigma are discussed, as long as revitalizing and reforming the international Human Rights system is suggested, in order to tackle the XXI century’s challenges, realities, lessons learned and calls for world widely preserving life and dignity.
