Abstract
Human trafficking is a transnational crime that has traditionally received less attention on the international agenda compared to drug trafficking, terrorism, and insurgency, despite its profound impact on the lives, freedom, and dignity of its victims. For this reason, there are still significant challenges to completely eradicate its causes, evolution, and consequences. This article seeks to contribute to the identification of mitigation strategies for this crime in Latin American by analyzing the cases of Honduras and Colombia, countries that, due to their geographical location, have become origin, transit, and destination points for human trafficking victims. Drawing on data from the Global Organized Crime Index and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, this study offers insight into the progress made by these countries in combating human trafficking. It argues that, given the complexity of this phenomenon, collaborative efforts involving governmental and non- governmental entities are essential to address its intricate and global dimensions.
